Well done Scotland for having the sense to TELL their railways what their livery should be! It is high time that this practise was rolled out across the rest of the BR network.

Having a standard livery (and staff uniform) saves cash when francises change ownership. Lets be honest, in most cases it is the taxpayer that foots the bill for these unecessary and expensive rebranding, reliverying, and new staff uniforms.

Regularly changing names and liveries confuses the travelling public. People like to see familiarity, as it increases confidence in most cases if they see something they recognise. Transport for London have done it with the Underground and the buses, and I think the railways should too.

I recently travelled on a Scotrail class 156 from Newcastle to Carlisle an was able to see the new standard Scotrail livery in the flesh. While it is not the most imaginative of livery schemes, it is never the less simple and attractive. The only hint of the operating company is a small logo and name near the doors.

Lets stop this waste of time, energy, and money, and have a national livery scheme that is carried by trains regardless of who the operator is.

D Hood.

Further to the above comment. I read recently that East Coast Railways (government owned) has just spent £635,000 on a rebranding exercise.

This is an appauliing waste of limited public funds. If we had a national railway brand that included staff uniforms and liverys, the public purse could have saved £635,000.

Only the present arrogant Labour government could be capable of missuse of funds to this extent. The rest of us would be up in court for a lot less than that.

I think that the "BR" network should have one final rebranding exercise, and that is back into "British Rail".

There is nothing happening now on our railways that could not happen in a publicly owned one, and with the ommision of the necessary profit for the companys, the railway could be run for the country a lot cheaper than now. This means there will be more money left over for investment and dare I say it, cheaper ticket prices.

The previous 2 goverments have wrecked our railways in the name of "competition", which can never exist in its true sense on our railway anyway due to the nature and constraints of the network. "Competition" is just an excuse for governments to offload a service from its responsibility so that when something goes wrong, it cannot be held responsible.

Well I think they are wrong, and that they should be held responsible, and they should be lobbied until they re-nationalise Britains railway service. Anyone fancy creating a Facebook page for this??????
