As a keen modeller of the modern diesel and electric era I am glad to see the return of some popular ex Lima models by Hornby.

Having looked at some of these models it is plain to see that Hornby have not just released these models without some costly re engineering first. Main areas of attention seem to be new motors and associated running gear, and an improvement in the build quality of some examples that were lacking in this department when produced by Lima.

However, I think Hornby have missed the boat slightly here. This re tooling and re engineering process was a great opportunity to get to grips with some of the features that let these models down in the past. The biggest culprit for me is the huge and unsightly tension lock coupler that is fitted to most ex Lima products.

Baring in mind the cost Hornby must have incurred while installing these much needed improvements, would it not have been prudent to make the above modification also? The visual benefit of doing this would be immense and I believe would add value to the finished product.

It would be interesting to hear Hornby's views on this.
